Asus 1005PE

I recently decided to get a netbook since I wanted an ultraportable machine. My macbook is a bit to carry around most of the time, and since I bike everywhere I worry about crashing and crushing it. I decided to go with the Asus 1005PE after reading some reviews and hearing it was very Linux friendly. It was very well priced ($330 on Amazon), had the newest Atom processor, and advertised very good battery life. So far I have not been disappointed one bit. This netbook came with Windows 7 starter on it. I have barely used Windows the last few years, and I would have to say it is definitely the best version they have come out with so far. Although the starter edition is a terrible excuse of an OS, it is extremely stripped down (you can’t even change the background). So I decided to go with the latest desktop version of Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit. I was very impressed that nearly everything work out of the default installation. Some people complained of the brightness Fn keys not functioning correctly, but I did not experience this. The only thing that I have not been able to get to work is the sound Fn keys. This is a small complaint. Maybe I will run into some other issues, but nothing has come up yet.
